SALKANTAY TREK TO MACHUPICCHU 5D / 4N

One alternative to the classical Inca Trail is this tour Salkantay – Machu Picchu. The two highlights on this tour, besides the Machu Picchu complex, are Salkantay Mountain with its 6272 masl. And the other snowcapped mountain up close and the fact that this hike offers the special experience to see Machu Picchu on a distance already one day before arrival on its mountain saddle across the Urubamba valley.

ITINERARY

Day 01: Cusco - Mollepata – Soraypampa. 

Pick up from your hotel at 04:30 a.m. departure by our transport to Mollepata - Cruzpata, a beautiful scenic journey through Limatambo, with stops for panoramic views of the Apu Salkantay. There we will meet with our support staff. There we will organize all the equipment horses and mules. We will star our trek to Soraypampa (3900 m.a.s.l) for 3 hours approximately, lunch place as well base camp. After lunch we will continue hiking up to the Humantay Lake (4200 m.a.s.l.) in 3 hours round trip. Dinner and spend the night. (L.D.)

Day 02: Soraypampa – Chaullay. 

After breakfast, we will continue our trek towards the first pass of the trek at Apachete (4590 m.a.s.l.) which rests between the snow-capped peaks of Humantay and Salkantay. After we will walk downhill from here. Finally arrive to the pass, our guide will take the opportunity to teach us about an ancient practice, the offering to the Apus. Continue our trek we will make a stop in beautiful Huayracpunku, where we will enjoy our lunch, after a long descent, we will arrive at our campsite in Chaullay. Dinner and spend the night. (B.L.D.)

Day 03: Chaullay – La Playa. 

After breakfast we descend for an hour more to the high jungle. We will walk for about 5 hours toward la Playa, we will observe a town called Collpabamba. Also called the Forest cloudy Brow and enjoy a varied flora and birds. Today we will pass through valley and have wonderful views of waterfalls, tropical fruits, plants and as soon as we are at la Playa place where we are going to camp. From here there are an optional thing to do so we can take a local bus to drive to Santa Teresa and back to la Playa. Dinner and spend the night. (B.L.D.)

Day 04: La Playa – Llaqtapata - Hidroelectrica - Aguas Calientes.

Early in the morning after our breakfast,  we will start ascend about 2-3 hours up to el Mirador or Abra Qelloqasa (2860 m.a.s.l.) from where we have exceptional views of Machu Picchu, finally we get to Llaptapata a beautiful archeological site which has connections to the Inca site,  Machu Picchu and Sayacmarka. Then we will start to descend for 2 hours towards the Aobamba River crossing lush bamboo forest and coffee plantations bring us to the Hidroelectrica. We serve lunch, we will continue to walk for 3 hours to Aguas Calientes where we will stay in the hotel for the night. (B.L.D.)

Day 05: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco.

After the Breakfast we will take bus to Machu Picchu sanctuary arriving there. We will enjoy a guided tour for 2 hours. After that, we will have the opportunity to freely explore the wonderful lost city of the Incas. After our visit we will go back to Aguas Calientes, where we can enjoy a relaxing bath at the local hot spring. In the afternoon we will take the train back to Cusco. (B.)
