CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK 4D/3N

CHOQUEQUIRAO is situated in the spurs of the mountain range of Salcantay, at 3035 m.a.s.l, surrounded by the snowcapped Apus of Yanama, Ampay, Choquecarpu, Pumasillo and Panta on the right side of Apurimac River in the Santa Teresa district, The Convention province of the departament of Cusco.

Choquequirao is an Inca town formed by small sites spread out in rubblework that in its adjoining constructs a complex metropolis similar to those of the other regions placed on the crest of the hill by the same name Choquequirao.

ITINERARY

Day 01: Cusco - Cachora – Chiquisca – La Playa - Santa Rosa.

Breakfast in the hotel, we leave Cusco very early  at 5am for the village of Cahora, where we will arrive after a 4 hours journey by bus. We get ready our equipment on mules and horses before starting our hike. After 2 hours of walking to Capuliyoc (5482 m.a.s.l.) from this site we can observe the majestic snow-covered peaks of Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora and early views on the Apurimac valley. Then descend toward Coca Masana, where the flora and fauna begin to change. Finally we arrive at Santa Rosa. Dinner and camp for the night. (L.D.)

Day 02: Santa Rosa - Choquequirao.

After breakfast, we continue our hike ascending to the villages of Santa Rosa and Marampata where we can appreciate the spectacular scenery. From Marampata we continue towards the complex archaeological site of Choquequirao, which will take approximately 2 hours. Choquequirao is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the majestic scenery and located nearby is our campsite where we will have lunch. After lunch we will exploring the Inca construction of Choquequirao we will visit this majestic place on our own and appreciate the houses, terraces and other parts of this old Inca Town. Our guide will also explain the history and importance of this site. At the end of the tour we will return to the campsite and spend the night. (B.L.D.)

Day 03: Choquequirao – Chiquisqa.

After an early breakfast we travel towards Choquequirao, we will be able to admire the ample flora and fauna, will pass by Marampata again, take our lunch in Santa Rosa, leave the camp site of Playa Rosalina behind and finally reach the camp site of Chiquisqa and spend the night. (B.L.D.)

Day 04: Chiquisqa – Cachora – Cusco.

After breakfast, we walk up a moderate hill towards the Capuliyoc pass. Once again we are free to view the majestic snow-covered Padrayoc Peak on top of Apurimac Canyon. At Capuliyoc our private transport will be waiting for us, after we will visit the archaeological site of Saywite and have time to explore. Finally our transport will bring us back to Cusco. (B.L.)
